Advocate Panel App - Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement applies to the CPS Advocate Portal  website.

This website is run by the Crown Prosecution Service. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

    •   zoom in without the text spilling off the screen
    •   navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
    •   navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
    •   listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet (opens in a new window) has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

The Crown Prosecution Service is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 (opens in new window) AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Retention of your personal data

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Issues with images

Some images or icons do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

We plan to add text alternatives for all images in an update to the site by December 2020. When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.

Issues with third-party applications

We use a third-party application which uses form functions which might not all be fully accessible, but the third-party companies are either in the process of reviewing their applications.

Navigation and accessing information

The accordions used to expand or hide sections of the application form require the user tabbing twice to reach the first piece of content in the section.

Some guidance text is not always read out by screen readers.

It’s not possible for users to extensively magnify the screen without some of the content overlapping.

Some heading elements of pages are skipped by screen readers and this fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 1.3.1 (info and relationships) and 2.4.1 (Bypass Blocks).

Issues with forms

One of our forms contains fields that are not grouped together this fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 1.3.1 (info and relationships) and 3.3.2 (labels or instructions).

We aim to address this in our next release before December 2020.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

We are working with our suppliers to address the accessibility of widgets that currently cause issues and are redesigning the formatting templates we use.
